Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) is set to launch its Doctor of Chiropractic program at its Phoenix satellite campus, marking a significant milestone for the Southwestern U.S. This initiative, announced on July 17, 2025, is the first of its kind in Arizona and neighboring states, which include New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, and Nevada. With no existing chiropractic programs in this region, SCU’s expansion presents a transformative opportunity for aspiring healthcare professionals.

Founded in 1911 as the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, SCU’s program is among the oldest and most respected in the United States. The institution has a long-standing reputation for pioneering chiropractic education and integrative health practices. According to Nic Poirier, DC, EdD, Executive Dean of the College of Chiropractic Education at SCU, the program’s innovative delivery model will set a new benchmark for chiropractic education in the Southwest.

Key Features of the Program

SCU’s chiropractic program distinguishes itself through several unique features. Students will gain unmatched clinical experience by training at over 500 partner sites, which include private practices, Veterans Affairs hospitals, athletic programs, and federally qualified health centers. This extensive network ensures that students are well-prepared for real-world practice.

Additionally, SCU emphasizes business readiness, providing students with essential training in areas such as coding, billing, and risk management. This focus equips graduates to launch and maintain successful chiropractic practices.

The program also offers degree customization options, allowing students to choose elective paths in Sports Medicine, Eastern Medicine, Functional Medicine, Chiropractic Techniques, Business, and an optional dual-degree track in Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Technology and Whole-Person Approach

SCU supports its educational framework with advanced teaching technologies, including force-sensing tables and 3D anatomy software. This technology-enhanced learning environment complements traditional classroom lessons and hands-on clinical training.

Moreover, the program adopts an integrative, whole-person approach to healthcare. Students are trained to collaborate across both conventional and complementary disciplines. Tamara Rozhon, EdD, Provost of SCU, stated, “We know the region has long lacked access to chiropractic education, and we’re proud to be filling that gap.”

She emphasized that as the nation’s first Integrative, Whole Health University, SCU aims to prepare students to treat the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—reflecting the future direction of healthcare.

With this expansion, SCU addresses the growing demand for accessible, non-invasive healthcare solutions. “This is not only a milestone for our institution, but a vital step toward ensuring communities across Arizona have greater access to quality chiropractic care,” said Dr. Poirier.

The hybrid program, which combines online coursework with hands-on training, is set to begin in January 2026. Students will have the flexibility to attend some in-person courses at SCU’s main campus in Whittier, California, if desired. Applications are currently being accepted through the university’s website, www.scuhs.edu.

Southern California University of Health Sciences continues to challenge conventions within the healthcare landscape. It offers a broad range of graduate, undergraduate, and certificate programs across various disciplines, including Chiropractic, Sports Medicine, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and more. As SCU expands its reach, it remains committed to shaping the future of healthcare education and delivery.
