Nancy Burns, owner of Rebel Pilates, has transformed the traditional fitness studio into a holistic wellness center. Located at 3695 Kirby Drive, Ste. 125, Pearland, this studio emphasizes not only physical fitness but also mental and spiritual healing. Burns, a certified Pilates instructor, health coach, and nutrition counselor, aims to create an environment where women can achieve comprehensive wellness.

At Rebel Pilates, clients can participate in various offerings, including Pilates classes, health coaching, lifestyle guidance, and movement therapy. Burns believes that wellness is interconnected and that addressing chronic pain requires a multifaceted approach. She stated, “Everyone’s unique, everything matters and everything is connected.” This philosophy drives her to tailor individualized plans for each client, recognizing that similar symptoms can stem from vastly different root causes.

A Journey Through Pain to Healing

Burns’ approach to wellness is deeply influenced by her personal experiences. During her tenure in the health care industry in the 2000s, she faced her own chronic pain for over 13 years. This challenging journey led her to extensive research and ultimately shaped her vision for Rebel Pilates. “I was in pain for years, but through it all, I managed to come out of the valley,” she reflected. Burns encourages her clients to reject negative narratives about their capabilities, emphasizing resilience and the potential for recovery.

Many clients arrive at Rebel Pilates feeling “sick and tired of being sick and tired.” Burns noted that issues such as migraines or insomnia often have underlying causes related to digestive health. By helping clients connect these dots, she aims to guide them toward efficient, long-lasting solutions. “I’m helping them connect the dots and get to the root causes,” she explained.

Holistic Practices and Future Aspirations

In her classes, Burns teaches clients how to experience lightness in their bodies and the importance of deep, gentle breathing. Some clients may not recognize their physical discomfort until they engage in specific movements, which are designed to be mindful and careful, avoiding overexertion.

A significant aspect of Burns’s work focuses on nutrition and intuitive eating, which encourages clients to listen to their hunger and fullness cues. She plans to expand her services by incorporating cooking classes, highlighting her belief that the quality of food directly impacts overall health and wellness. “I’m guiding them, directing them [and] opening their eyes to give them freedom: movement freedom, food freedom, relationship with their body freedom [so] they can learn to love themselves,” Burns said.

Rebel Pilates not only fosters physical fitness but also promotes a comprehensive approach to health that respects the individual needs of each client. As Burns continues to expand her offerings, her commitment to a holistic wellness model remains at the forefront of her mission to empower women in their journeys to health.
