Nurse Kevin Goode Transforms Life Through Weight Loss Journey

Kevin Goode, a registered nurse at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, has undergone a remarkable transformation, shedding over 260 pounds in his pursuit of health and fitness. This journey began with a wake-up call from his doctor, who warned that without significant changes, Goode might not reach his forties.
At just 28 years old, Goode weighed 465 pounds in February 2023 and faced serious health issues, including hypertension, sleep apnea, and Type 2 diabetes. After undergoing bariatric surgery later that year, he was initially tasked with losing 20 pounds before the procedure but exceeded expectations by losing 80 pounds.
With the backing of his family, coworkers, and his gym in Martinsville, Goode embraced his health journey wholeheartedly. As he began to see progress, he noticed a significant improvement in his daily life. “I take the stairs every day to get up to work here, and I’m not winded by the end of it,” he shared. In fact, he often makes a point to walk the stairs multiple times to ensure he meets his cardio goals.
By July 2025, Goode had reached a low weight of 176 pounds and currently weighs 205 pounds. Remarkably, his previous health conditions have resolved, allowing him to engage more actively with patients. Goode noted that he can now provide better care and connect more meaningfully with children at the hospital.
His inspiring journey has resonated with his colleagues. Shelby Nation, the day shift coordinator at the hospital’s heart center, described how Goode’s transformation has motivated others to pursue healthier lifestyles. She emphasized the importance of support, stating, “Whether it’s participating with him or just sending him an encouraging text… just any kind of motivation that we can give him.”
In October, Goode will take his transformation to the next level by competing in a transformational bodybuilding competition. This event will judge contestants based on before-and-after photos, their personal stories, and 20% of their physique. “I’ve already won, obviously, with shedding the weight off and changing my life,” he said. “But just trying to put it in that next person’s mind that you can literally do whatever you set your mind to.”
As he continues to inspire others, Goode is also pursuing his certified trainer license and is set to graduate in May to become a nurse practitioner. His primary goal remains clear: to motivate others by sharing the story of his incredible transformation and the confidence he has gained along the way.
