Organ donor registrations are rising in Northeast Ohio, yet the region is grappling with a significant shortage of available organs. After losing her **9-year-old twins**, Mila and Ray, in a tragic house fire in 2021, Silva faced the heart-wrenching decision of whether to donate her children’s organs. “It was a late night,” she recounted. “My parents were out doing some grocery shopping… My brother came from upstairs and said that he could smell smoke.” The situation escalated rapidly, with the twins rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors informed Silva that there was little hope for their recovery due to prolonged oxygen deprivation.
