Jets Cornerback Kris Boyd Returns to Hospital After Shooting
New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd has been readmitted to hospital after experiencing health complications following a shooting incident in midtown Manhattan on November 16, 2023. Boyd took to his Instagram Stories late Wednesday night to inform his followers of his condition, expressing gratitude for their support during this challenging time.
In his post, Boyd stated, “I was released but had to return to the hospital due to my health issues. I love and appreciate everyone of y’all dearly who has prayed/reached out even if I can’t get back to you.” He also conveyed a sense of hope, writing, “Head HIGH, God is not through with me yet!”
Boyd’s shooting incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on November 16, approximately halfway between Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Police reported that Boyd, aged 29, was shot in the abdomen and subsequently taken to Bellevue Hospital. The assailant fled the scene, and authorities have since released surveillance images of a suspect in connection with the case.
On November 19, Boyd shared a positive update with his followers, posting a photo of himself in a hospital bed with a smile. He wrote at the time, “I’m sorry I have no words at the moment. Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!”
Jets coach Aaron Glenn confirmed on Friday that Boyd had returned to the hospital, stating, “Well, the last that we heard is he had an issue and he had to go back into the hospital. But other than that, I need to figure that out.”
Boyd has not yet played this season after being placed on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 due to a shoulder injury that required surgery. A Texas native, Boyd was drafted in the seventh round by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 and played four seasons with the team. He later signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 before joining the Jets on a one-year contract worth $1.6 million in March.
As Boyd continues his recovery, his community and fans remain hopeful for his return to health and the field.
