Holiday Season Sees Surge in Support Needs for Survivors
The holiday season often brings joy and connection, but for many survivors of domestic violence, it can also heighten feelings of stress and isolation. During this time, organizations like Women Helping Women report a significant increase in calls from individuals seeking support. The agency’s CEO, Kristin Shrimplin, highlighted the reasons behind this surge in demand during a recent conversation with community advocate Michelle Hopkins.
Increased financial pressures, combined with the emotional strain of the holidays, can escalate situations of power and control for survivors. “We typically see a rise in calls during this period, as the dynamics of relationships can become more intense,” Shrimplin explained. She emphasized the importance of understanding these seasonal challenges that many survivors face.
Comprehensive Support for Survivors
Women Helping Women provides a range of services designed to support survivors wherever they are. The agency operates a 24/7 confidential hotline that offers immediate assistance to those in need. Additionally, the organization responds to emergency situations, including 911 calls and hospital visits, ensuring survivors receive the necessary care and support.
Beyond immediate crisis intervention, Women Helping Women offers ongoing support through court accompaniment and support groups. These services aim to remove barriers that may hinder survivors from accessing help and to walk alongside them throughout their journey. The organization’s commitment is evident in their comprehensive approach to addressing the various needs of survivors during this challenging season.
How to Get Involved
Community members interested in supporting survivors during the holiday season can visit the organization’s website at womenhelpingwomen.org. There, individuals can find information on how to contribute, whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness about the resources available.
As the holiday season approaches, the need for support services remains critical. Women Helping Women continues to stand as a vital resource for survivors, ensuring they are not alone during what can be one of the most challenging times of the year.
