Wilkes University awarded more than 400 degrees during its summer commencement ceremony on September 28, 2025. The event celebrated the accomplishments of graduates from various disciplines, including bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. Senior Vice President and Provost David Ward welcomed attendees, setting a positive tone for the proceedings.

The ceremony featured remarks from Ben Toll, an associate professor of political science and chair of the Faculty Affairs Council, alongside Brian Bogert, a member of the graduating class. Both expressed their pride in the achievements of their peers. The keynote address was delivered by Megan Youmans, associate professor and co-chair of chemistry, who inspired graduates with her insights on perseverance and the value of education.

Following the speeches, Greg Cant, president of Wilkes University, conferred the degrees. The new graduates were welcomed into the ranks of over 50,000 alumni worldwide by Neal McHugh, vice president of the alumni association, marking a significant milestone in their academic journeys.

Among the graduates were several local students who earned degrees in various fields:

– **Savannah Reardon**, Dupont: Bachelor’s degree in nursing
– **Jason Reynoso**, Wilkes-Barre: Bachelor’s degree in engineering management
– **Luke Spencer**, Dallas: Bachelor’s degree in business administration
– **Blake Bynon**, Wilkes-Barre: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
– **Jennifer McLaughlin**, White Haven: Doctorate in education

The breadth of disciplines represented underscores the university’s commitment to providing a comprehensive educational experience. Other notable graduates included:

– **Sarah Swiderski**, Dallas: Master’s degree in nursing
– **Theresa Kingeter**, Harveys Lake: Master’s degree in education
– **Nicolette Bagoly**, Wilkes-Barre: Master of Science degree from the University of Alabama, also awarded during summer commencement ceremonies.

In addition to academic achievements, the summer commencement celebrated the continued success of Wilkes University students in athletics. Rachel Galasso from Sweet Valley is contributing to the Kutztown University field hockey team, which previously won the NCAA Division II championship in 2023. Last season, the team reached the championship game but faced defeat in overtime against Saint Anselm College.

With this commencement, Wilkes University continues to empower its students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in their respective fields. The achievements of these graduates reflect not only their hard work but also the enduring support of faculty, family, and the community.
