Vermont Challenges State Education Takeover Amid Tax Hike Concerns

The Vermont administration’s proposal to consolidate the state’s 119 school districts has sparked significant debate. On December 1, 2023, the administration released its annual education tax rate letter, which predicts an average increase of 12% in education property taxes. Despite the evidence-based approach and public input that shaped this plan, the administration has dismissed it in favor of its original consolidation proposal.
