St. Johns County Agricultural Center Hosts Fall Plant Fundraiser
The St. Johns County Agricultural Center will host its annual Fall Plant Fundraiser this weekend, starting on October 10. The two-day event will take place from 09:00 to 14:00 on both Friday and Saturday. This fundraiser not only offers a diverse array of plants but also serves as an educational opportunity for gardening enthusiasts of all skill levels.
Located at 3125 Agricultural Center Drive, the event will showcase an extensive selection of plants, including landscape options ideal for backyards, houseplants suitable for windowsills, and vegetable seedlings eager to find a home in local gardens. With all proceeds benefiting the county’s horticulture program, participants can feel confident that their purchases will support local educational initiatives and community outreach.
Throughout the fundraiser, attendees can join guided tours of the Agricultural Center’s demonstration gardens, gaining insights into various horticultural practices and the local flora. Tim Wilson, the St. Johns County UF/IFAS Extension Director, highlighted the growth of the event, stating, “This year, we have expanded our nursery to offer a wider selection of plants.” He noted that over half of the available plants will consist of native Floridian species, while the remaining selections will include Florida-friendly options—non-native plants that thrive in the local climate.
This initiative reflects the blossoming gardening scene in St. Johns County and underscores the importance of sustainable gardening practices. The Fall Plant Fundraiser is set to attract both seasoned gardeners and those new to the hobby, making it a vibrant celebration of community and nature.
Those interested in enhancing their gardens or learning more about local horticulture are encouraged to attend this enriching event.
