Southeastern Community College (SCC) hosted a successful Health Expo on March 8, 2024, attracting over 80 high school students from the surrounding area. The event took place at the college’s campus in West Burlington and provided students with firsthand exposure to various health career paths.

Participants gathered at the Blackhawk Recreation Center before embarking on a series of interactive experiences designed to showcase the healthcare field. One of the highlights was a demonstration by paramedic students, who responded to a simulated emergency involving a life-like mannequin that had fallen in the Health Professions building lobby. This hands-on activity allowed students to witness the critical skills needed in emergency medical services.

Following the demonstration, attendees had the opportunity to observe Medforce Air personnel as they showcased their life flight helicopter, which operates out of Great River Health. The helicopter landed in a field adjacent to the building, giving students a closer look at air medical services and the equipment used in such operations.

The event continued with activities in the Repository Care and Medical Assistance classrooms, where students engaged in various interactive exercises. These sessions aimed to deepen their understanding of healthcare roles and the diverse opportunities available within the industry.

As the day progressed, students explored booths from local healthcare businesses displayed in the Rec Center. This networking opportunity allowed participants to connect with potential employers and gain insights into career options in the health sector.

The Health Expo concluded with a prize drawing, where attendees had the chance to win gift baskets and a $50 gift card, adding an element of excitement to the event.
