Job seekers in downtown Miami can now access a new resource dedicated to enhancing their employment prospects. A collaboration between the Miami-Dade Public Library System and CareerSource South Florida has resulted in the opening of a hiring and training center at the Main Library. The center aims to connect residents with job opportunities and provide essential training resources.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for February 17, 2024, where Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will officially inaugurate the CareerSource South Florida Center. “This new CareerSource South Florida Center reflects our commitment to expanding access to job training and employment opportunities for all residents,” she stated, as reported in a press release from the county. This initiative aligns with the county’s broader strategy, which includes a “No Wrong Door” approach that seeks to meet community members where they are, offering career services, digital literacy training, and access to reliable internet.

Funding for this initiative comes from a substantial digital equity grant exceeding $1.2 million from the FloridaCommerce Office of Broadband. This grant is part of a larger financial support effort in Miami-Dade County, which totals more than $13.5 million aimed at improving digital resource access and internet reliability, as outlined in the County’s Broadband and Digital Equity Plan.

The hiring and training center is more than just a job search resource. It is equipped with technology and workspaces that facilitate connections to employers, and it provides assistance with resume writing and interview preparation. Operations for the center are managed by workforce development provider Arbor E&T, LLC, and it will be open to the public from Monday to Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Residents interested in learning more about the services provided can visit the CareerSource website or contact their office directly, according to the county’s official information. For those currently seeking employment or looking to enhance their digital skills, the Main Library at 101 West Flagler Street in downtown Miami is the place to be starting this Tuesday.
