Nancy Neff Establishes Endowed Fund to Empower STEM Students

Nancy Neff, an alumna of Stony Brook University, has made a significant contribution to support students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Neff, who graduated in 1972, has established the Nancy L. Neff Endowed Fund to benefit the WISE Honors Program, a community-focused initiative that aims to provide undergraduate students with essential resources and mentorship.

Neff’s commitment to mentoring has been a cornerstone of her career in consulting, where she has dedicated herself to guiding colleagues and clients alike. For the past 10 years, she has actively contributed to the mathematics and physics departments at Stony Brook University, recognizing the importance of fostering a supportive environment for aspiring students. Upon learning about the WISE program, she was inspired to ensure its longevity through her new endowed fund.

“I love that they have a huge mentorship program,” Neff stated. “I think mentorship is so valuable because it’s something I didn’t have early in my career, being a female in a traditionally male-dominated field.” Her experiences have shaped her understanding of the challenges faced by women in STEM, driving her desire to provide support and guidance to future generations.

Support for Student Development

The Nancy L. Neff Endowed Fund will provide general support for the WISE program, which focuses on cultivating critical thinking and leadership skills among students. The fund will be utilized for various student activities, including mentorship initiatives, networking events, workshops, and guest speaker engagements.

“These students are critical thinkers. They are smart and productive. They are our future leaders,” Neff emphasized. Her investment in the program reflects her belief in the potential of these students and her enthusiasm to play a role in their success.

In addition to her philanthropic efforts, Stony Brook University is gearing up for several events. The university’s football team is encouraging fans to participate in a ‘Red Out’ at LaValle Stadium during the Homecoming game against William and Mary on October 26, 2024. Moreover, the St. James Challenge recently gathered hundreds of participants to support the future Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook.

The university also hosted its Fall 2024 Art Crawl on October 9, showcasing works from four talented artists, further enriching the cultural landscape of the campus and the surrounding community.

Through her generous contribution, Nancy Neff not only strengthens the WISE Honors Program but also sets a precedent for alumni engagement in supporting educational initiatives that empower the next generation of leaders in STEM.
