Longview ISD Invites Community to Name New Education Facility
The Longview Independent School District (ISD) is engaging its community by inviting residents to submit name proposals for its new career and technical education facility at Longview High School. This initiative is part of the district’s expansive $456 million bond program, which was approved by voters in 2024.
The naming nomination period is open until 1 a.m. on January 22, 2024. Community members, including students, staff, alumni, and families, can submit their recommendations through an online form accessible at longviewisd.com/forms/cte-naming. All submissions will be evaluated by a dedicated committee, with the final decision resting with the district’s board of trustees.
Dr. Marla Sheppard, the district superintendent, emphasized the importance of community involvement in the naming process. “Longview ISD is proud of the history and people who make our district special,” she stated. “We want this process to be open so our community can share their input to leave a legacy on a building that our students deserve.”
The online form encourages participants to propose names that reflect the facility’s significance. Suggested names may highlight the local geographical importance, the educational programs offered, or honor individuals who have made notable contributions to the district or the wider community. Additionally, names can pay tribute to local, state, or national heroes, as outlined on the district’s website.
This community-driven approach not only fosters a sense of involvement but also ensures that the new facility embodies the values and aspirations of the Longview community. As construction progresses, the anticipation surrounding this important educational resource continues to grow, marking a significant investment in the future of local students.
Longview ISD’s commitment to enhancing career and technical education aligns with broader educational trends seeking to prepare students for a rapidly evolving workforce. By allowing the community to partake in naming the facility, Longview ISD is creating a lasting connection between the institution and the community it serves.
