I-29 Moo University is set to host its next Beef on Dairy dialogue webinar on October 28, 2023, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. This session will feature Ingrid Fernandes, a graduate research assistant in the Department of Animal Science at Pennsylvania State University. Fernandes will present her research focused on the impact of early-life respiratory disease in BXD cattle, tracking them from weaning to slaughter.

During the webinar, Fernandes will discuss her findings, which reveal that bovine respiratory disease can have lasting effects on both animal performance and carcass value. These insights underscore the significance of managing respiratory health in cattle not only for animal welfare but also for the profitability of the dairy industry.

Fernandes, originally from Brazil, brings a wealth of knowledge in ruminant nutrition, calf health, and livestock production systems to the discussion. Her study highlights the critical need for attention to early-life health issues in cattle, as they can influence long-term outcomes in the dairy sector.

Participation in the webinar is free, but registration is required. Interested individuals can sign up until one hour before the event at https://go.iastate.edu/BOVINERESPIRATORY. This program offers an opportunity for stakeholders in the dairy industry to enhance their understanding of animal health and its economic implications.

As the webinar approaches, industry professionals and academics are encouraged to engage with this important dialogue, which aims to foster greater knowledge and improvements within dairy management practices.
