Nearly 100 high school students participated in a tour of construction sites in Ybor City on the morning of October 14, 2023. The event, part of the ACE program, provided students with a unique opportunity to observe ongoing projects by Gasworx, a company known for its significant developments in the area.
The ACE program, which stands for Architecture, Construction, and Engineering, aims to inspire students to consider careers in these fields. Participants were able to engage directly with professionals and gain insights into the construction process. This hands-on experience included guided tours of various sites, allowing students to see the practical application of their studies.
The event was organized to bridge the gap between education and real-world applications. By interacting with industry professionals, students learned about the different roles and responsibilities within the construction sector. Furthermore, they explored how large-scale projects like those undertaken by Gasworx impact the community and the economy.
The tours included visits to several locations where construction is actively underway. Students observed the latest building techniques and materials being used. They also had the chance to ask questions, fostering an environment of curiosity and engagement.
Feedback from participants highlighted the value of the experience. Many expressed excitement about the opportunity to explore potential career paths in architecture and engineering. The hands-on approach of the ACE program has received positive responses from educators as well, who see it as a vital component of career readiness.
Gasworx has been a key player in the redevelopment of Ybor City, investing in projects that enhance the area’s appeal. Their commitment to community engagement through initiatives like the student tours reflects a broader trend in the construction industry, where collaboration with local educational institutions is becoming increasingly important.
As the students left the construction sites, their enthusiasm was palpable. The opportunity to see real-world applications of their studies has sparked interest in future careers, demonstrating the importance of programs that connect education with practical experience. The ACE program continues to make strides in shaping the next generation of professionals in the construction and engineering sectors.
