FSU Graduates Celebrate Summer Commencement on August 5

Florida State University (FSU) held its Summer Commencement ceremony on August 5, 2023, celebrating the achievements of over 600 graduates. The event took place at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center in Tallahassee, Florida, marking a significant milestone in the academic journeys of the students.
The ceremony featured speeches from notable speakers, including FSU President Richard McCullough, who emphasized the importance of resilience and adaptability in today’s world. McCullough highlighted the challenges faced by graduates during their studies, particularly in a post-pandemic environment. He encouraged the new alumni to embrace the future with confidence and purpose.
Graduates received degrees across various disciplines, with many earning honors for their academic excellence. Among them were students from the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, and the College of Education. Notably, Anna Johnson, who graduated with a degree in psychology, received the prestigious FSU Alumni Association Award for her outstanding contributions to the campus community.
The Summer Commencement is a cherished tradition at FSU, providing an opportunity for graduates to celebrate their hard work with friends and family. The ceremony included performances by the FSU Marching Chiefs, who added a lively atmosphere to the occasion. The procession of graduates culminated in the ceremonial turning of the tassel, symbolizing their transition from students to alumni.
With this ceremony, FSU graduates are now part of a global network of over 400,000 alumni. Many graduates expressed their excitement about entering the workforce or pursuing further education. Michael Smith, a recent graduate in finance, noted, “This degree opens so many doors for my future career. I am ready to take on new challenges.”
As the university looks ahead, FSU remains committed to supporting its graduates through various resources, including career services and alumni networking events. The Summer Commencement not only celebrates academic achievement but also reinforces the university’s mission to prepare students for success in a dynamic world.
The next commencement ceremony is scheduled for December 15, 2023, where FSU will honor its fall graduates in what promises to be another inspiring event. For now, the newly minted graduates can take pride in their accomplishments as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
