Eighth Graders Explore Career Options at Academy Quest Event

Nearly 900 eighth graders participated in the inaugural Academy Quest event at the Lawton Public Schools Life Ready Center on March 15, 2024. This initiative aimed to spark interest in various career paths among future high school students by allowing them to engage in hands-on activities.

Students had the chance to build rockets, weld metal, assemble skeletons, and even create business products using simple materials like paper clips. This interactive experience was designed to showcase the diverse course offerings available at the Life Ready Center, which focuses on preparing students for careers in various fields, including engineering, technology, and business.

The Academy Quest event provided students with insights into potential future careers and introduced them to practical skills that are increasingly valued in today’s job market. “Our goal is to inspire students and show them that there are many paths they can take after high school,” said Dr. Emily Carter, the principal of the Life Ready Center. “We want them to explore their interests and passions early on.”

Participants were able to rotate through different stations, each dedicated to a specific career field. This hands-on approach allowed students to experience real-world applications of what they learn in the classroom.
