Community Events and Activities Scheduled for February and March

A series of community events and activities have been scheduled across Schuylkill County, offering residents opportunities to engage in social, recreational, and educational pursuits. From historical presentations to outdoor walks, February and March are filled with activities catering to a variety of interests.

Social Gatherings and Educational Opportunities

Alumni from the Pine Grove Area Class of 1967 will meet on the second Thursday of each month at noon at Heisey’s Diner, located on Route 72 north of Lebanon. Meanwhile, the Blue Mountain Class of 1959 holds meetings on the third Wednesday of each month at 3Cs Restaurant on Route 61, with inquiries directed to Shirley Moser at 717-445-4885.

The Schuylkill Conservation District is set to lead a 1-mile walk at Locust Lake on February 19 at 1 p.m.. Participants can enjoy an easy, mostly paved path, with children and dogs welcome. Another event, the Landingville Marsh Meander, will take place on February 22 at 2 p.m., featuring a hike along the John Bartram Trail to view historical remnants including America’s oldest transportation tunnel, built in 1827.

For those interested in technology, Penn State Schuylkill will host a three-part series titled “Everyday AI for Business” on February 18, February 25, and March 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Food Events and Community Services

Food enthusiasts can look forward to the Tremont Fire Company’s Wing Nights on February 16, April 20, May 18, and June 15. Orders for dine-in or takeout can be placed starting at 4 p.m. by calling 570-695-3915. Additionally, the Fire Company will host Fish Fry Fridays on March 13, 20, and 27, where advance orders are required for items such as baked or fried haddock and crab cakes.

Free meals are available through the Shepherd’s Table, occurring on the first Sunday of each month at Grace Free Church locations in Orwigsburg and Tremont. Libraries across the region are also hosting various programs. The Pottsville Library, for example, offers a range of activities including STEM Corner for ages 1-11, teen gaming, and storytime for younger children. The Orwigsburg Library features multiple events, including a Valentine’s kids story and craft session on February 12 at 4 p.m..

Art and Cultural Engagement

Art lovers can participate in the Winter Artisan Series at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, including workshops on drawing owls and coffee art. The schedule includes events on February 16, February 21, and various dates in March. For registration, visit hawkmountain.org/WAS.

The Walk In Art Center will showcase a Fiber Arts Exhibition through February 27 and host various classes related to fiber arts. A Friendship Bracelet Class is also scheduled for February 17 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m..

The Schuylkill County Coalition of Historical Societies will hold its annual History Faire on February 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Foursquare Gospel Church in Pottsville. This event will feature over 30 local historical societies and collectors showcasing artifacts, with no admission fee.
