Aims Community College in Greeley, Colorado, is set to host a screening of short films created by female veterans. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 15, 2024, from 18:00 to 21:00 in Ballroom A of the Aims Welcome Center, located at 4901 W. 20th St. This screening highlights the creative work produced during the “I Was There Film Workshop” held in November 2022.

The initiative is a collaboration between Aims Community College and the Patton Veterans Project. Under the guidance of Benjamin Patton, the grandson of General George S. Patton, the project employs collaborative filmmaking as a therapeutic tool for veterans. This approach aims to mitigate social isolation and enhance community bonds through film.

Benjamin Patton expressed that the objective of the project is to bridge the gap between veterans and civilians. By showcasing these films, the initiative seeks to educate the public about the mental health challenges faced by veterans and their families. The screenings not only provide a platform for the filmmakers but also foster a supportive environment where discussions can flourish.

The event begins with doors opening at 17:30, allowing attendees to settle in before the films are presented. Following the screening, there will be a meet-and-greet reception with the filmmakers, offering the audience a chance to engage directly with those behind the creative works.

Participation in the event is free, but registration is encouraged. Interested individuals can sign up at Events.Aims.Edu. The college invites the community to partake in this unique opportunity to view films that reflect the experiences and stories of female veterans, contributing to a broader conversation about the challenges and triumphs within the veterans’ community.

This event stands as a testament to the power of storytelling and its ability to connect people from diverse backgrounds, promoting understanding and compassion through shared experiences.
