A third-grade student from Northern Virginia is reaching out for assistance in gathering information about the state of Ohio for a school project. Nicholas, a student at The Langley School, is excited to explore the characteristics and culture of Ohio as part of his class’s study on the United States.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to the readers of The Tribune, Nicholas expressed his eagerness to represent Ohio well in his upcoming State Fair project, scheduled for late May. He wrote, “I have chosen to study the great state of Ohio and I’m excited to learn more. I hope to represent you well in my final State Fair project.”

Nicholas is looking for contributions from Ohio residents to enrich his research. He has already gathered information from books and websites but is eager to learn directly from the people who call Ohio home. His letter includes specific requests for items such as postcards, pictures, souvenirs, or other unique items that showcase Ohio’s pride and culture.

Questions from a Young Explorer

In his correspondence, Nicholas posed several questions to help him understand Ohio better. He seeks insights on the following topics:

– Why do you live in your state? What brought your family there?
– What does your state look like?
– What do people do for fun?
– What types of food do you eat? What traditional food or recipes does your state have?
– What animals live there?
– Do you have a state athletic team?

Nicholas plans to compile all responses by the first week of May. He assures contributors that he will express his gratitude by sending a note to the editor of The Tribune after his project presentation.

If you would like to assist Nicholas in his quest for knowledge about Ohio, you can send items or information to:

As students like Nicholas engage with their communities and learn about different states, they foster a sense of connection and understanding across the nation. This project not only serves as an educational tool but also highlights the importance of collaboration and sharing experiences.
