Pike County Schools Expands Non-Resident Enrollment Options
Pike County Schools has introduced enhanced options for non-resident students and expanded its Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings through the Pike County Connects initiative. This initiative aims to provide families with additional pathways to achieve academic and workforce success.
The updated policies encompass tuition structures, application requirements, and participation options specifically designed for students residing outside the district, as well as for those attending homeschool and private institutions. The Non-Residency Transfer policy allows students in grades K–8 to apply with a one-time application fee of $50, alongside a tuition fee of $400 per semester or term. Students must also complete a CHOOSE Act application, with new applications required following any break in attendance.
For students in grades 9–12, there is no tuition charge if they have attended Pike County Schools for the two previous consecutive years or achieve that status after entering ninth grade. However, these students are still required to submit CHOOSE Act applications.
Expanded Opportunities through Pike County Connects
Pike County Schools is promoting the Pike County Connects initiative, which includes CTE and specialized academy programs for students in grades 10–12. Homeschool and private school students can participate in these programs through CHOOSE Act funding or self-pay options, provided they meet eligibility requirements. The application fee remains at $50, with tuition set at $1,000 per semester or term. Certain programs may necessitate summer participation, emphasizing the importance of early planning.
Pike County Schools is now recognized as an approved CHOOSE Act vendor. Students wishing to enroll in the district’s “First in Flight” Academy must register with Pike County Schools for Average Daily Membership purposes. They will also need to participate in state assessments and cover flight instruction costs through self-pay and/or CHOOSE Act funding. Additionally, those interested in dual enrollment must meet the eligibility standards set by Pike County Schools, as well as the admissions requirements of partnering colleges or universities.
Dr. Mark Bazzell, Superintendent of Pike County Schools, stated, “These opportunities reflect our commitment to providing innovative learning experiences while remaining responsible stewards of public resources.” He encouraged families to explore the various options and to reach out with any questions regarding eligibility and enrollment.
Families interested in further information or in applying can visit the Pike County Schools website or contact the Dual Enrollment Office Coordinator at 334-566-1850, extension 89250, or via email at [email protected]. This outreach reflects a broader effort to engage the community and facilitate educational access for all students in the region.
