During a recent meeting held on January 15, 2024, the Midland Public Schools Board of Education reelected its four officers for the upcoming year. The organizational and regular board meeting took place at the MPS administration center located on East Carpenter Street. The board members reaffirmed their leadership roles, with Phil Rausch continuing as President, Scott McFarland as Vice President, Jennifer Ringgold as Secretary, and Jon Lauderbach as Treasurer.

A three-member nominating committee oversaw the selection process, recommending the same individuals for these positions. The reelection reflects the board’s commitment to continuity and effective governance.

2024 Meeting Schedule Announced

In addition to the officer elections, the board approved its regular meeting schedule for 2024. Meetings are set to occur at 7 p.m., with the exception of the first meeting of the year, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. on January 20, 2024. The complete schedule is as follows:

– January 20 (6:30 p.m.)
– February 16
– March 16
– April 20
– May 18
– June 15
– July 20
– August 17
– September 21
– October 19
– November 23
– December 21

These meetings will provide opportunities for the board to discuss important matters affecting the school district and engage with the community.

Focus on Board Development

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to a presentation titled “Building Board Capacity: Productive Communications and Shared Norms.” Led by Lori and Adam Peterson from A L Peterson Group LLC, the presentation emphasized the importance of understanding individual personalities and motivations within a team context. The Petersons drew from concepts outlined in Patrick Lencioni’s book, “The 6 Types of Working Genius,” which categorizes different working styles into six types: wonder, invention, discernment, galvanizing, enablement, and tenacity.

This workshop aimed to enhance the board members’ collaboration and effectiveness, ensuring they are well-equipped to serve the educational needs of the community.

The next meeting of the Midland Public Schools Board of Education is scheduled for January 20, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at the MPS administration center.
