Kevin Maki Remembered for His Dedication and Family Spirit
Kevin Harold Maki, a beloved member of the Duluth community, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, at the age of 65. Surrounded by family, Kevin’s journey on earth came to an end, leaving behind cherished memories for those who knew him.
Born on July 5, 1960, in Grand Marais, Minnesota, Kevin was the son of Sandra Lee Albiston (Linnell) and Phillip John Maki. He completed his education at Denfeld High School in 1978, setting the stage for a lifelong career as an ironworker. Kevin joined the Ironworkers Local 563, where he honed his skills and contributed significantly to the profession. His career culminated at the New Page Recycle Mill, where he eventually retired.
On February 17, 2001, Kevin married his soulmate, Gina Maki. Together, they created a loving home and enjoyed numerous outdoor activities, including camping and fishing, often spending quality time with family and friends at Long Lake. Their bond was evident to all who witnessed their life together.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Gina, and their daughters, Jen (Dave) Hoodie and Samantha (Phil) Schweikert. Additionally, he leaves behind stepchildren Cory (Jess) Kuchta and Candice Cerio, along with grandchildren Aaron, Dave Jr., Iden, Maylee, Lily, Jayden, Audri, and Cade. His father, Phillip Maki, along with siblings Kent Johnson, Brent (Heather) Albiston, and Sonja Maki Gruwell, also survive him. The family legacy extends through numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kevin was predeceased by his mother, Sandra, and sister, Kim Maki, as well as his stepfather, Bob Albiston, and stepmother, Nadine Maki. His family remembers him fondly, including his loving nickname, “Sweet Pea,” which symbolizes the affection he shared with those closest to him.
In honor of Kevin’s life and the joy he brought to others, a Celebration of Life will take place at Mr. D’s large banquet room on January 31, 2026, from 13:00 to 17:00. Friends, family, and all who knew Kevin are invited to join in remembering a man who will be dearly missed.
As his family reflects on his life, they acknowledge his spirit with a heartfelt tribute: “Fish on, Big Mac!” Kevin’s legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
