The Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is allocating over $12 million in federal funds to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure across the state. This initiative aims to alleviate range anxiety for EV owners by establishing 14 new charging stations along key highways, making long-distance travel in electric vehicles more feasible.

The funding will support the deployment of charging stations along Interstate 90, US 97, US 195, and US 395. The locations include major hubs such as Cle Elum, Ellensburg, George, Issaquah, Moses Lake, North Bend, Ritzville, and Veradale on I-90. Additionally, stations will be placed in Goldendale and Toppenish on US 97, Colfax and Pullman on US 195, and Colville and Deer Park on US 395.

According to a recent press release from WSDOT, the new charging stations are expected to be operational within the next 24 months. This expansion is part of a broader effort to promote the use of electric vehicles and support the state’s environmental goals. The initiative reflects a growing recognition of the need for a robust charging network to facilitate the transition to sustainable transportation options.

As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, the availability of charging infrastructure becomes increasingly critical. By investing in these charging stations, Washington is positioning itself as a leader in the transition to electric mobility, ensuring that drivers can travel long distances without the fear of running out of power.

This development is likely to benefit not only current EV owners but also encourage more residents to consider electric vehicles as a viable option for their transportation needs. The planned stations will provide necessary support for both short trips and long journeys, thus contributing to a more sustainable future for the state’s transportation landscape.
