Kia Unveils New Seltos with Hybrid Option and Enhanced Features
The new Kia Seltos, set to launch in 2026, introduces a hybrid powertrain alongside a suite of upgraded features while maintaining affordability. The vehicle will be available in the United States, likely branded as a 2027 model, with sales expected to begin in 2026. Kia aims to replicate the success of its popular Telluride and EV9 models, offering a more spacious and feature-rich subcompact SUV.
Unveiled in South Korea, the new Seltos has seen significant growth in dimensions. It measures 174.4 inches in length, which is 1.8 inches longer than its predecessor. Additionally, the wheelbase has expanded by 2.4 inches, and the width has increased by 1.1 inches, while the height has been reduced by 0.6 inches for a sportier profile. Kia has not yet provided specific measurements for passenger and cargo space, as they are pending evaluation based on U.S. standards.
$23,690 will be the starting price for the 2026 Seltos, and although Kia has not confirmed exact fuel economy figures, the company asserts it will remain an affordable option in the crowded small SUV market. The Seltos will compete against models such as the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Honda HR-V, and Toyota Corolla Cross.
New Features and Enhancements
In response to customer feedback, Kia is introducing two new trim levels: the sporty GT-Line and the rugged X-Line. Features will vary across markets, but the U.S. version is anticipated to include advanced technology such as a ChatGPT-powered AI virtual assistant for navigation and other functions, a panoramic sunroof, and a 12-inch head-up display.
The Seltos will also offer various driving modes and options for front- or all-wheel drive. It will be powered by three gasoline engines, producing 149, 180, and 193 horsepower, with a hybrid variant arriving later in the year. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual and several automatic variations, accommodating a broad range of driver preferences.
Kia plans to manufacture the new Seltos in multiple locations, including India, South Korea, and China. This model marks the first time the Seltos will be sold in Europe, aligning with Kia’s strategy to expand its presence in global markets. The company aims to sell approximately 430,000 units annually, building on the success of the first-generation Seltos, which sold 2 million units over the last five years.
Design and Interior Features
The exterior design of the Seltos features a prominent grille and “Star map” style running lights, echoing the aesthetic of the Telluride and EV9. Additional design elements include flush door handles and optional two-tone roofs. Inside, the vehicle boasts two 12.3-inch screens flanking a central five-inch touch screen for controls, with a blend of physical buttons and dials for ease of use.
Kia has also focused on enhancing the driving experience by adding acoustic insulation and thicker glass to reduce cabin noise. The rear seats are designed to fold flat for increased cargo space, offering a 24-degree recline for passenger comfort.
As the launch of the new Seltos approaches, details regarding specific features and availability in different markets will become clearer, ensuring that Kia continues to meet evolving consumer demands.
