HP Launches Ultra-Light OmniBook 7 Aero for Professionals
HP has introduced the new OmniBook 7 Aero, a lightweight laptop aimed at professionals and students. Weighing under 2.2 pounds, this ultra-portable device is designed for easy commuting and offers impressive battery life to last through an entire work or school day. Featuring an AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 APU, it meets the requirements for enhanced AI functionalities, positioning itself as a strong contender in the thin and light laptop market.
The starting price for the OmniBook 7 Aero is $949, which includes a base configuration with an AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 APU, 16GB of memory, a 512GB SSD, and a 13.3-inch display with a 1920 x 1200 resolution. For an additional $180, buyers can upgrade to the Ryzen AI 7 350 APU, which enhances graphics capabilities with the Radeon 860M. The top-tier configuration, which includes 32GB of memory and a 1TB SSD, is priced at $1,359.
Design and Usability
The OmniBook 7 Aero is available in two color options, with the review model featuring a sleek Ceramic White finish. Its minimalist design, complemented by slim bezels and a streamlined keyboard, fits seamlessly into any professional setting. The keyboard offers a satisfying tactile feedback, enhancing the overall typing experience.
Despite being labeled as ultra-light, the laptop’s weight felt almost negligible during use. Users may find themselves forgetting it is on their lap due to its lightness, which underscores the convenience of its portability. Commuters will appreciate how easily it fits into a backpack without adding significant weight.
However, the display is one of the weaker aspects of the OmniBook 7 Aero. The matte, 400-nit anti-glare IPS panel performs adequately in well-lit environments but lacks vibrancy, particularly with mid-tone colors. While it is sufficient for casual streaming, it may not meet the standards for tasks requiring precise color accuracy, such as photo editing.
Performance and Battery Life
Equipped with the Ryzen AI 7 350 APU, the OmniBook 7 Aero demonstrates commendable performance, ranking competitively against other ultra-portable laptops like the Asus Zenbook S14 and Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x. According to internal testing by HP, the device offers over 12 hours of battery life under mixed-use conditions. Personal testing corroborated these findings, averaging around 11-12 hours, making it a reliable choice for users who require long-lasting power on the go.
While the laptop does integrate Microsoft’s Copilot+ AI suite, which includes features such as live captions and Windows Studio Effects, the overall utility of these tools remains debatable. Some users may find the proprietary AI features less compelling compared to the built-in enhancements provided by third-party applications. Despite this, the OmniBook 7 Aero does excel with its PolyStudio effects for video calls, offering enhanced webcam and audio quality.
Whether the OmniBook 7 Aero is the right choice depends on individual needs. It is an excellent option for those seeking a lightweight laptop for commuting, especially if found on sale. Nevertheless, budget-conscious students may want to consider alternatives, such as the HP OmniBook 5, while those requiring a high-fidelity display might prefer the Asus Zenbook S14.
In summary, the HP OmniBook 7 Aero combines portability and adequate performance, making it a strong candidate for professionals and students alike. With its compelling specifications and lightweight design, it stands out as a practical solution for anyone in need of a reliable laptop for daily tasks.
