Holcomb and Hoppin Claim U23 Titles, Set Sights on Elite Racing

Ruth Holcomb and Griffin Hoppin have secured their positions for the 2026 Life Time Grand Prix by winning the inaugural under-23 titles in this year’s off-road series. Their performances throughout the season not only confirmed their spots for the upcoming season but also positioned them as formidable challengers for elite standings.

Both athletes demonstrated remarkable skill and determination, particularly at the Little Sugar MTB event in Bentonville, Arkansas, where they crossed the finish line as the leading U23 riders. Holcomb enjoyed an impressive season, clinching four victories to become the top U23 woman. Hoppin showcased his talent with three high finishes, including a notable fifth place among the elite competitors.

Hoppin expressed his satisfaction following the Big Sugar Classic, stating, “Little Sugar is what secured the overall for me and got my spot in the big Grand Prix. I got three wins now, plus third place, and then the two drops.” His performance at the Little Sugar event, where he finished fifth overall, was pivotal in earning his title, despite the results of the Big Sugar Classic being non-consequential for his final standing.

Hoppin, a 22-year-old from Colorado College, has shown consistent improvement throughout the season. His early successes included a strong finish at the Sea Otter Gravel and a fourth place at the Unbound Gravel 100. “I did what I needed to do,” he reflected, acknowledging the pressure of the final races. “It feels like I’m closing the gap to the top guys, and I’ll be in the proper Grand Prix next year, so I’m excited about that.”

Holcomb Dominates the U23 Women’s Field

While Hoppin was securing his title, Holcomb, who missed the series opener at the Sea Otter Classic, recovered by sweeping the next four races. As the top U23 woman, she excelled at Unbound Gravel, Leadville, Chequamegon MTB, and Little Sugar. Her strong performance at these events ensured her dominance in the series, overcoming challenges from competitors like second-place finisher Alexandra Charles.

“I’m pretty good on a mountain bike, and I’m on good form right now,” Holcomb commented after her victory at Little Sugar. “I’m excited about the opportunity, and it’s really nice to have that confirmed for next year.” Her absence at the Big Sugar Classic did not impact her standings, as she only needed to compete in the previous events to secure the overall title.

A native of Durango, Colorado, Holcomb has made significant strides since joining the Santa Cruz htSQD off-road team. Her gravel debut at the BMC Rock Cobbler in California was a triumph, setting the tone for her successful season. “I really don’t think I could’ve ever imagined how great this opportunity would be for me,” she said, crediting her teammates for their support and guidance throughout the year.

Both Holcomb and Hoppin will transition to elite competitions next year, which will involve racing in more challenging events, including the Unbound Gravel 200. They will also be eligible for a share of the increased prize money available in the 2026 Life Time Grand Prix, which totals $590,000. The top ten finishers in the elite field will share a substantial purse of $350,000, with individual event prizes ranging from $30,000 to $60,000.

As they prepare for the upcoming season, Holcomb and Hoppin not only celebrate their achievements but also look forward to the challenges ahead as they aim to elevate their performances in the elite categories. With their current momentum, both riders are poised to make significant impacts in the Life Time Grand Prix and beyond.
