Google Unveils Revolutionary Image Editing Feature in Gemini
Google has launched a significant upgrade to its Gemini app, introducing an innovative image editing feature that allows users to edit images with greater precision. This enhancement aims to address a common frustration many users face when attempting to instruct AI to make specific changes to an image. Now, users can draw or annotate directly on their images, providing clear visual guidance to the AI.
Introducing the ‘Mark Up’ Editor
The new ‘Mark Up’ editor transforms the Gemini prompt box into a mini image editing tool. With this feature, users can select an image to access a new interface that offers two key tools to streamline the editing process. The first is the Sketch tool, which enables users to draw, highlight, or indicate specific areas of the image with a digital pen. For instance, if a user wants to change the wheels on a car or add a hat to a dog, they can simply circle the area rather than describe it in detail.
The second tool is the Text feature, allowing users to place text prompts directly onto the image at designated locations. This approach eliminates the need for extensive verbal descriptions, making it easier for the AI to understand the desired edits. Google has noted that while this visual method is emphasized, users can still include traditional text prompts if they wish to provide additional context.
Enhancing User Experience
This new capability, described as a “draw-to-edit” function, is currently being rolled out across various platforms, including Android, iOS, and the web. By shifting the editing process from typing to drawing, Google aims to create a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. The update is expected to make the creative process feel more natural, allowing users to achieve the final look they desire with less effort.
Google’s commitment to improving AI-driven tools reflects its ongoing efforts to enhance user satisfaction and engagement. The launch of this feature coincides with the introduction of the Gemini 3 family earlier in December 2025, marking a significant step forward in the capabilities of AI image editing.
As the digital landscape continues to evolve, tools like the Gemini app are setting new standards for creative applications, ultimately empowering users to express their ideas with greater clarity and ease.
