Garmin Restores Do Not Disturb Sync for Android Users
Garmin has reintroduced the Do Not Disturb (DND) sync feature for Android users in the latest update of the Garmin Connect app, version 5.22. This functionality allows Garmin watches to mirror the DND status of Android phones, addressing a long-standing usability issue for users of both platforms.
Prior to this update, the DND mirroring feature was first made available with Garmin Connect version 5.18. In that release, the watch would remain silent when the phone was in DND mode. Unfortunately, version 5.19 saw the unexpected removal of this feature, leading to confusion as alerts resumed even when the phone was muted. The recent update restores this critical functionality, but with added flexibility.
Enhanced Control for Users
With the new version 5.22, users can now toggle the DND mirroring feature on and off, providing greater control over notifications. Previously, if a phone was set to DND, some users were unable to receive alerts on their watch, even if they preferred to do so. The latest update rectifies this issue, allowing individuals to customize their notification experience according to their needs.
To access this new option, users can navigate to Settings within the Garmin Connect app, select Notifications, and tap on App Notifications. There, they will find the option to ‘Follow Do Not Disturb,’ making it possible to choose which notifications to receive while in DND mode. This improvement is particularly beneficial for individuals with irregular schedules who need to manage their alerts effectively.
The DND sync feature aligns with existing system-level settings, allowing certain apps and contacts to bypass DND as configured by the user. According to feedback from a user on Reddit, this update has successfully halted random vibrations and notifications on the watch when the phone is on DND, while still storing alerts in the notification widget. This matches the intended functionality of the feature.
Acknowledging User Feedback
Garmin’s responsiveness to user feedback has been evident throughout the development of this update. Requests for a DND feature on Android have been ongoing for several years, particularly as iOS users enjoyed similar functionality without issue. The success of this update highlights Garmin’s commitment to addressing user concerns and enhancing the overall experience.
The update is currently being rolled out globally and is available for download on the Google Play Store. Users can update to Garmin Connect version 5.22 to take advantage of the reintroduced DND sync feature. This development marks a significant step forward in enhancing the usability of Garmin devices for Android users, ensuring they can effectively manage their notifications.
Garmin’s developers have consistently shown they are attentive to community feedback, quickly addressing bugs and implementing user-requested features. With this latest update, Android users can expect a more seamless and customizable experience with their Garmin devices.
