Cyclists Gear Up for Challenging 2025 Tour de Romandie Féminin
The 2025 Tour de Romandie Féminin is set to take place from August 15 to 17 in Switzerland, marking its fourth edition. This three-day stage race is notable as the first major event on the top-tier calendar following the conclusion of the Tour de France Femmes earlier this month. After a brief break, many prominent riders are returning to compete in this mountainous challenge.
The race comprises a total of 249.69 kilometers with an elevation gain of 3,356 meters. It features an undulating uphill time trial leading to Villars-sur-Ollon, a summit finish at La Tzoumaz, and a hilly finale in Aigle. Previous champions include Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, Demi Vollering, and Lotte Kopecky. Notably, the reigning world champion is not listed to defend her title, although she appears as a reserve. Vollering is also absent, creating an open field for new contenders.
### Key Contenders for Victory
Several riders are expected to challenge for the overall title. Among them, Juliette Labous and Elise Chabbey from FDJ-Suez stand out. Chabbey recently excelled at the Tour de France Femmes, winning the mountains classification. Her experience and home-ground advantage position her as a strong candidate for a breakaway or high overall finish.
Labous is also a force to be reckoned with, having performed well in time trials and mountain stages. She finished fourth overall in last year’s event and aims to secure a podium spot this season.
Niamh Fisher-Black and Gaia Realini from Lidl-Trek represent another formidable duo. Fisher-Black showcased her climbing skills with a third-place finish in the queen stage of the Tour de France. Realini, although less active recently, has a history of strong performances in mountainous terrains, making her a wildcard in the competition.
### Experienced Competitors
Former champion Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio returns with a focus on reclaiming her title. After missing the Tour de France squad, she has been preparing for this race and aims to leverage her climbing abilities on the ascent to La Tzoumaz. Her experience in tactical racing could provide an edge over competitors.
Teammate Urška Žigart has also demonstrated impressive climbing skills this season, finishing fifth overall at the Tour de Suisse. Both riders’ lack of participation in the Tour de France may grant them a crucial advantage due to their added rest.
### Rising Stars
From Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto, Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney poses a significant threat after her strong showing at the Tour de France, where she finished third. The team includes talented riders like Ricarda Bauernfeind and Antonia Niedermaier, who have experience in Grand Tours and could also vie for leadership roles during the event.
Meanwhile, Mavi García from Liv AlUla Jayco is coming off a stage win at the Tour de France and carries momentum into this race. Her versatility in both climbing and time trials makes her a serious contender for the overall title.
Lastly, Nienke Vinke of Team Picnic PostNL is another athlete to watch. After finishing 19th overall at the Tour de France, her consistent performances in the top-20 across several WorldTour events demonstrate her capability in this demanding race.
As the Tour de Romandie Féminin approaches, the mix of seasoned competitors and emerging talents promises an exciting contest for cycling fans. The mountainous terrain and strategic racing will undoubtedly add to the drama as athletes vie for victory in this prestigious event.
