Weekend Events Enhance Campus Comeback Amid Winter Storm
As students return to campus this weekend from January 23 to 25, 2026, an unexpected winter storm is set to impact the area. Despite the challenging weather conditions, several engaging events are scheduled across the city, providing opportunities for relaxation and entertainment. The weekend features a variety of activities, including concerts, theater performances, and community gatherings, all designed to ease the transition back into academic life.
Musical Elegance at the Symphony
On Friday evening, music enthusiasts can attend the concert titled “Brahms & Haydn” at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, located at 1212 Cathedral St. The event begins at 20:00 and will be led by music director Jonathon Heyward. This performance promises a delightful blend of Classical and Romantic music, showcasing Haydn’s wit alongside Brahms’ Violin Concerto, performed by renowned violinist Simone Lamsma. With tickets priced between $35 and $109, attendees can expect a night filled with sweeping melodies and vibrant orchestral colors.
A Winter Playground and Compelling Theater
On Saturday, the Harbor Point Central Plaza transforms into a winter wonderland for “A Carnival of Ice,” running from 11:00 to 17:00. This free event features live ice carving demonstrations, interactive displays, and entertaining circus performances throughout the day. Visitors can look forward to stilt walkers, aerial silk performers, and canine acts, while food trucks offer a variety of culinary delights, including loaded baked potatoes and funnel cakes.
Later that evening, the Strand Theater presents the world premiere of “From East, Like the Sun” at 20:00. Written by Karen Li and directed by Jalice Ortiz-Corral, this poignant play delves into themes of immigration, family, and the quest for stability across generations. The narrative follows two families as they navigate the complexities of leaving their homes. Tickets for this compelling production are available for $25.
Game Day Festivities at Hard Rock Cafe
Sunday offers a vibrant atmosphere for sports fans at the Hard Rock Cafe, located at 601 E. Pratt St. From 15:00 to 21:00, patrons can enjoy the championship playoffs during “Touchdowns & Tunes,” with back-to-back game watch parties and a selection of tailgate-style food specials. Fans are encouraged to wear their team jerseys for a chance to receive 20% off their bill if their team wins. The event promises an energetic game day experience in the heart of the Inner Harbor.
As students acclimate to their spring semester routines, these events provide a welcome opportunity to engage with the community and enjoy some leisure time despite the winter weather challenges.
