Remembering Suzanne R. Rubincam: A Life of Music and Love
Suzanne R. Rubincam, a beloved resident of Palos Verdes Estates, California, passed away on September 28, 2025, at the age of 84 in Redondo Beach, California. Her legacy lives on through her family and the countless students whose lives she touched as a dedicated music teacher.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Suzanne was raised in Evanston, Illinois. She attended Northwestern University, where she first met her future husband, Paul Pierre Rubincam, Jr.. The two fell in love during a chance encounter at her Debutante Ball, where Paul charmed her with his wit and charisma. After completing her studies, they relocated to California, settling in the Lunada Bay neighborhood, where they lived for over 55 years.
A Passion for Music and Teaching
Known affectionately by many nicknames, including Sue, Susie, and Ms. Music, Suzanne dedicated her professional life to music education. She taught at Rolling Hills Country Day School, where she created unforgettable experiences for her students through elaborate plays that showcased their musical talents. Her passion for music instilled a love for the arts in countless children, making a lasting impact in her community.
Outside of her teaching career, Suzanne found joy in her summers spent at the Portuguese Bend Club, enjoying time with close friends. She was also an avid needlepointer, crafting intricate pieces of art that she often gifted to family and friends. Her love for music extended to playing the piano, and her garden flourished under her care, particularly her cherished roses.
A Family Woman
Family meant everything to Suzanne. She is survived by her son, Paul Richard (Rich) Rubincam, and his wife, Denise; her daughter, Amy Rubincam Steadman, and her husband, Will; as well as her three granddaughters, Chloe Rae Rubincam, Summer Elizabeth Steadman, and Mia Christine Steadman. As a mother and grandmother, she was deeply cherished, and her family fondly remembers her for her warmth and infectious smile.
Her marriage to Paul was a partnership of love and devotion, with friends and family often referring to them as inseparable. Together, they were known for their lively dancing at various events, a reflection of their joyful spirits. Many believe they are now dancing together once more.
In accordance with Suzanne’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, reflecting Suzanne’s compassionate nature. Friends and family are invited to share memories and messages on the Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions website at www.LAfuneral.com.
Suzanne R. Rubincam’s life was a tapestry of music, love, and lasting connections. Her contributions to education and her family will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
