Remembering Arturo O. Valencia: A Legacy of Love and Dedication
Arturo O. Valencia, known affectionately as “Art,” passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family. His death marks the end of a life dedicated to hard work, resilience, and unwavering love for his family. Born in North Hollywood to Alejandro and Luisa Valencia, Art embodied the values of commitment and determination throughout his long life.
Art was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nellie Valencia, with whom he shared an extraordinary partnership for over 73 years. Together, they raised four children: Mary George, Arturo Valencia, Andy Valencia, and Becky Trillo. His legacy continues through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom he held dear.
A Life of Passion and Accomplishment
Arturo’s family ties were strong, as he was predeceased by his sister, Lola Gonzalez, and brothers, Alex, Raymond, and John. He is survived by his siblings, Tito and Choco. Beyond family, Art found joy in various pursuits, including camping trips to Glen Ivy, where cherished family memories were created.
His love for sports was evident throughout his life. An avid bowler, Art participated in competitions for over 40 years, first at the Bowl-O-Drome and later at Gardena Bowl. He also played in a men’s softball league at Torrance Park during the 1960s and was renowned as a skilled pool player, winning multiple tournaments and earning a reputation in the Torrance community.
Art’s journey began in Torrance, where he grew up in La Rana, a tight-knit community. He attended Torrance High School and went on to build a successful career. He dedicated 20 years to Soule’ Steel in Carson before becoming a Master Mechanic at McDonnell Douglas. His precision and commitment earned him great respect from colleagues and supervisors alike.
Enduring Legacy
Art was a self-made man who took pride in his achievements. His home, which he lovingly restored and maintained, reflected his craftsmanship and attention to detail. A voracious reader, he was a lifelong subscriber to the Daily Breeze, taking joy in the written word, especially knowing that his sons once delivered that very paper.
Though Art is no longer physically present, his spirit lives on in the stories shared by family and friends, the lessons he imparted, and the love he radiated. In honor of his life, services will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church of Torrance, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934.
Arturo O. Valencia’s journey is a reminder of the impact one individual can have on family and community, leaving a lasting legacy that transcends time.
