Quantum Computing Expert to Address William & Mary Colloquium
Charles Tahan, a distinguished physicist and leader in quantum information science, will be the keynote speaker at the inaugural School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics Joint Colloquium on November 7, 2023. Scheduled for 16:00 local time in Small Hall, Room 110, this event invites scholars, students, and professionals from across William & Mary to engage with cutting-edge developments in technology.
Tahan, who graduated with a B.S. in physics and computer science from William & Mary, currently serves as a partner at Microsoft Quantum. In this role, he leads technical teams focused on the development of quantum computers and the formulation of strategic initiatives across the industry. His previous experience includes pivotal leadership in the National Quantum Initiative as the assistant director for quantum information science and director of the national quantum coordination office at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
Insights into Quantum Information Science
During his talk titled “Accelerating the Future of Computing,” Tahan will delve into how quantum information science is revolutionizing computing and information technology. He will discuss the potential of future systems that integrate classical high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum accelerators to tackle complex problems at unprecedented speeds.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session, allowing them to engage directly with Tahan, a leading figure in quantum technology. A short reception will follow, providing further networking opportunities for students and faculty.
