Community Remembers Educator Harold Meredith Klonecky, 98

Harold Meredith Klonecky, a beloved educator and community figure, passed away on November 16, 2025, in Torrance, California, at the age of 98. His life was marked by a dedication to teaching and a deep connection with his students, faculty, and family.

Born on May 22, 1927, in Dickinson, North Dakota, Hal, as he was affectionately known, was the son of Irma and Constant Klonecky. He began his academic journey at Dickinson State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree and initiated his career teaching English and Drama. In 1955, he relocated to California, taking a position at North High School in Torrance.

Dr. Klonecky went on to earn a Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California (USC). His career spanned over three decades at Torrance High School, where he served as an Assistant Principal and later as Principal until his retirement in 1987. His influence left a lasting impact on the school’s community, and he was well-loved by students, faculty, and parents alike.

Even in his later years, Dr. Klonecky remained active within the community, engaging with Torrance High School retirees and continuing to enjoy life to the fullest. He was known for his passion for golf and mystery novels, and he was a talented dancer who was sought after at social gatherings. Friends and family described him as patient and kind, not just to people but also to animals.

Dr. Klonecky is survived by his family, including Theresa and Jeff Heiney and their son, Erick; as well as Jen and Patrick Sullivan and their children Kieran, Aidan, Declan, and Bridget. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Klonecky.

A visitation and rosary will be held on December 15, 2025, from 16:00 to 20:00 at Coastal Funeral Center, located at 25001 Narbonne Avenue in Lomita. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for December 16, 2025, at 10:00 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, situated at 25511 Eshelman Avenue in Lomita. Following the Mass, friends and family are invited to a reception at Hof’s Hut, located at 23635 Crenshaw Boulevard in Torrance, at 11:30.

The community mourns the loss of Dr. Klonecky, whose legacy of kindness and education will be remembered by all who knew him.
