Trump Claims to End Eight Wars, Scrutiny Unfolds Over Success
Donald Trump has asserted that his administration has successfully ended eight wars since his return to the White House, a claim that has raised eyebrows among political analysts and observers. Despite ongoing conflicts, Trump has touted his foreign policy achievements, declaring he is deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize. This article examines the veracity of Trump’s statements regarding these supposed victories and the complexities surrounding them.
Claims of Peace in Ongoing Conflicts
In his recent remarks, Trump claimed, “The eight wars that my administration has ended in eight months – there’s never been anything like that.” He made these comments during a signing ceremony for a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, further asserting that the achievement averages one war resolution per month. Despite his confidence, the legitimacy of these claims is under scrutiny.
One of Trump’s notable claims involves the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, brokered in October 2025 after two years of intense conflict that began with a deadly attack on October 7, 2023, resulting in approximately 1,200 fatalities. Trump celebrated this achievement, stating, “Everybody’s happy,” when announcing the successful negotiations in the Israeli parliament. However, reports indicate that violence has persisted, with more than 400 Palestinians and three Israeli soldiers killed since the ceasefire was implemented, raising questions about the stability of the agreement.
The United Nations reported in January 2026 that more than 100 children were among those killed during ongoing hostilities, highlighting the fragility of the situation. The U.S. has since outlined plans for a new government in Gaza and the demilitarisation of Hamas, but the latter has not agreed to these terms.
Controversial Ceasefires and Diplomatic Efforts
Trump’s administration has also been credited with facilitating a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia, which stemmed from long-standing border disputes. Following armed clashes that displaced nearly one million people, Trump reportedly pressured both nations with the threat of halting trade agreements. Although a ceasefire was established in December 2025, reports suggest that thousands of Cambodian families remain unable to return home due to ongoing tensions.
In South Asia, Trump claimed responsibility for brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan following a terror attack in Kashmir in May 2025. While Pakistan acknowledged Trump’s role, India has denied any trade negotiations that would have contributed to the ceasefire, suggesting that the situation remains complex and unresolved.
Additionally, Trump’s involvement in mediating conflicts in Africa has also been questioned. A ceasefire agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo was signed in June, yet fighting has continued, particularly involving the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group. While the U.S. has facilitated discussions, the implementation of peace efforts remains inconsistent.
The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has also been on Trump’s agenda. In August, he hosted leaders from both nations at the White House to sign a deal aimed at reducing hostilities. Although there were commitments made regarding trade routes and a peace treaty, the agreements await ratification.
Trump has even included the longstanding dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam between Egypt and Ethiopia in his list of resolved conflicts. However, tensions persist, and it is unclear what specific actions Trump took to mediate this particular conflict.
Another notable claim involves Kosovo, where Trump’s administration lists the conflict as resolved. In reality, significant tensions continue, and the main sticking points regarding Serbia’s refusal to recognize Kosovo remain unaddressed.
Lastly, Trump asserts that he ended a brief war between Israel and Iran in June 2025, following military strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. While his administration celebrated this as a decisive victory, subsequent reports from the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency suggest that the military actions only temporarily delayed Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Trump’s optimistic proclamations about ending multiple conflicts are met with skepticism, as many of the situations he references remain unresolved, with ongoing violence and diplomatic challenges. The complexity of international relations and the persistence of hostilities raise questions about the effectiveness of Trump’s foreign policy claims. As the situation evolves, it remains to be seen how these narratives will impact his legacy and international standing.
