Thomasville Center for the Arts Secures $7,500 Grant for Art Tour

The Thomasville Center for the Arts has been awarded a grant of $7,500 from the Georgia Association of REALTORS® to enhance its Public Art Program. This funding will support the creation of a self-guided public art walking tour in historic downtown Thomasville, showcasing over 30 artistic installations, including murals, sculptures, and historic plaques.
Bobbie James, President of the Thomasville Area Board of REALTORS®, emphasized the importance of supporting local arts, stating, “We chose to support the Thomasville Center for the Arts because we recognize the vital role the arts play in enriching our community’s culture, fostering creativity, and enhancing the quality of life that makes Thomasville such a special place to live.”
The walking tour is designed to highlight the rich history and diverse culture of Thomasville, allowing both residents and visitors to engage with the community in a meaningful way. Darlene Crosby Taylor, Public Art Director at the Center for the Arts, expressed gratitude for the REALTORS®’ support, saying, “This funding directly supports our community and offers a unique activity year-round while showcasing the essence of our town.”
Details of the Walking Tour
The self-guided tour will be accessible via a free app, which is currently being developed with the collaboration of local artists, designers, and photographers. This initiative aims to encourage exploration of downtown Thomasville, providing an opportunity for participants to appreciate the town’s artistic contributions.
The tour is set to launch in December 2025, offering a year-round activity for locals and tourists alike. This project not only promotes public art but also fosters a stronger sense of community through shared cultural experiences.
Supporting Local Initiatives
The Thomasville Center for the Arts continues to engage the community through various activities. Visitors can enjoy free weekday admission to rotating art exhibitions and participate in monthly family events. The center’s public art program is made possible through an ongoing partnership with Ashley and 1915 South.
