St. Joseph DAR Celebrates Revolutionary War Ancestors with PBS Series
A local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in St. Joseph, Missouri, is highlighting the stories of their Revolutionary War ancestors in conjunction with a new PBS documentary series. The six-part series, titled “The American Revolution,” is directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt. It chronicles the journey of the thirteen American colonies as they united to secure their independence through an eight-year conflict.
The documentary explores various figures from the Revolutionary War era, showcasing a diverse array of backgrounds and contributions. Members of the St. Joseph DAR chapter can trace their lineage back to individuals who played a role in this pivotal moment in history. To qualify for DAR membership, individuals must demonstrate direct descent from a person who supported American independence.
In celebration of the documentary’s release, local DAR members are sharing stories of their ancestors at monthly meetings. This initiative aims to encourage residents of St. Joseph and nearby communities to discover their own connections to Revolutionary War patriots. The documentary began airing on November 21, 2025, but all episodes are now available for free streaming on PBS.
