Save The Images Initiative Launches for Community Image Library
A new initiative, titled Save The Images, is being launched to address the upcoming transition of the Kos Image Library, which will no longer be available on the platform. As users prepare for the migration to WordPress, the ability to search for and easily access images will be lost. This initiative seeks to create a community-driven solution to categorize and preserve images, ensuring that users can still find visuals relevant to their content.
The transition means that while all published diaries and comments will carry over to the new platform, users will face challenges in locating specific images. Unpublished drafts, which are often significant for users, will not transfer. In response, a group of community members, led by mettle fatigue, is urging participants to contribute to a collaborative effort that organizes images by various categories, effectively creating a new searchable image library.
Organizing Categories for Easier Access
The proposed system focuses on categorizing images into numerous distinct groups, allowing users to search and find content more efficiently. Initial categories include a wide range of subjects such as animals, plants, landscapes, and events, with a comprehensive list already in development. For example, under animals, categories will be subdivided to include specific types like dogs, cats, and wildlife.
By using a unique tagging system, each diary entry will be easily identifiable, with a common tag of SaveTheImages and individual tags specifying the contents. This method aims to streamline the process of finding and downloading images for personal diaries and comments. A collaborative effort is essential as the team works against a deadline of two to three months to publish these categorized images before the transition takes place.
Call for Community Involvement
The initiative is calling for volunteers to participate in this project. Interested community members are encouraged to request membership in the group and contribute to the categories that they are passionate about. Tutorials will be available to assist those unfamiliar with the process of publishing diaries. Each diary will follow a structured format, featuring a title that begins with Save The Images: followed by the specific category description.
Participants can help by curating images, providing identifying text, and avoiding duplicates to ensure a cohesive library. The community aims to create a comprehensive repository where images can not only be preserved but also be easily accessible for future use. This approach allows for a shared responsibility, making it possible for various members to contribute their expertise and interests.
As the community gears up to launch this significant project, it is clear that Save The Images is more than just a response to a logistical challenge; it represents a collaborative spirit aimed at preserving valuable resources for the entire user base. Community members are encouraged to join the initiative, ensuring that a diverse array of images can be saved and cataloged effectively.
