Robert Plant Unveils New Solo Album “Saving Grace” After Eight Years
Legendary rock singer Robert Plant is set to release his new solo album, “Saving Grace,” on November 3, 2023. This marks his first solo project in eight years and his twelfth overall, excluding his celebrated collaborations with bluegrass artist Alison Krauss.
Exploring New Musical Horizons
“Saving Grace,” named after Plant’s backing band, continues a tradition of drawing inspiration from his musical roots. The album follows the same naming convention as his 2010 release, “Band of Joy,” which was titled after his band featuring Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller. The current lineup for Saving Grace includes singer Suzi Dian, drummer Oli Jefferson, guitarist Tony Kelsey, banjo and string player Matt Worley, and cellist Barney Morse-Brown, who blend elements of Americana, folk, and blues.
Among the album’s highlights are interpretations of classic tracks such as “Can I Do It For You” by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy, who originally recorded “When the Levee Breaks,” a song later popularized by Led Zeppelin. Other notable covers include “It’s a Beautiful Day Today” by psychedelic rock band Moby Grape, “Soul of a Man” by gospel blues legend Blind Willie Johnson, and “Everybody’s Song,” the album’s lead single performed by Low. Plant and his band also infuse a modern twist into traditional songs like “I Never Will Marry” and “Gospel Plough.”
“Saving Grace brings a more European aesthetic to their take on American roots. And like its predecessors, the album proves the 77-year-old Plant to be one of the few artists of his vintage who refuses to rest on his laurels,” stated Ultimate Classic Rock.
A Legacy of Musical Innovation
At 77, Plant remains a significant figure in the music industry, primarily known for his role as the frontman of Led Zeppelin. His powerful vocals defined hits like “Whole Lotta Love,” “Immigrant Song,” and “Stairway to Heaven.” The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, solidifying their impact on rock music history.
Over the past 25 years, Plant has explored various musical styles through numerous solo projects and collaborations, often venturing beyond the rock genre. His collaboration with Krauss earned them Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Record of the Year in 2009, further enhancing his impressive list of accolades.
To promote “Saving Grace,” Plant will embark on a fall tour, starting next month. The tour will feature two concerts in New York, with performances scheduled for November 5 at the Brooklyn Paramount and November 8 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester. Fans can purchase tickets through platforms like Seat Geek, StubHub, and Vivid Seats.
With “Saving Grace,” Robert Plant not only reaffirms his enduring legacy but also showcases his commitment to musical exploration and innovation.
