Robert Irwin Charms Audiences While Teaching Niece to Dance
Wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin captivated audiences during a recent dance lesson with his four-year-old niece, Grace Irwin. This interaction followed his impressive debut on “Dancing With the Stars,” where he tied for the highest score in the competition’s opening week on September 16, 2023.
In a heartwarming display, Robert attempted to teach Grace some basic dance steps that he had learned from his professional partner, Witney Carson. Despite her mother, Bindi Irwin, being a former champion of the show, Grace seemed more focused on having fun than perfecting her technique. Bindi won Season 21 in 2015 alongside her partner, Derek Hough, who praised Robert’s initial performance, calling it “the best first dance I have ever seen on this show.”
During the lesson, Robert encouraged Grace with enthusiasm, saying, “OK, so we’re going to go bah, bah-bah, and then we’re going to go over here and we’re going to do the same thing.” Their playful interaction showcased Grace’s joy as she jumped, skipped, and twirled, wearing mismatched socks—one pink and one purple. Robert, with his black socks, joined in the spontaneity, demonstrating a carefree approach to dancing.
“Did I do it?” Grace inquired, to which Robert responded with a broad smile, “You did it! That’s it!” As the lesson evolved from structured ballroom moves to playful skipping in circles, Bindi’s voice rang out offscreen, expressing her delight: “Loved it!”
As Robert and Grace concluded their session with a dramatic pose, Robert declared, “We did it! 10s. All 10s,” to which Bindi chimed in, affirming, “All 10s from the judges!” In their playful banter, Grace asked, “Did I win?” Robert confidently replied, “You won. Everybody else can go home now. Grace has won.”
This charming family moment not only highlights the strong bond between Robert and Grace but also showcases the Irwin family’s lineage of talent and love for performance. As Robert embarks on his journey in “Dancing With the Stars,” he appears unfazed by expectations, embracing the joy of dance and family.
