Mesa’s Merry Main Street Celebrated with APRA Award Recognition
The City of Mesa, Arizona, is celebrating as its annual holiday event, Merry Main Street, has received the Outstanding Special Event Award for large cities from the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association (APRA). This recognition highlights the event’s charm and its significant role in attracting tourism and boosting the local economy during the winter season.
Merry Main Street is a six-week festival that offers a variety of attractions typical of holiday celebrations, including free photos with Santa, a towering 40-foot Christmas tree, and the largest outdoor ice rink in Arizona. The event aims to create a festive atmosphere that contrasts with the desert surroundings, successfully drawing over 190,000 visitors each season. According to a report on Mesa Now, the city’s Special Events team plays a crucial role in organizing the festivities, offering a blend of multicultural celebrations, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities.

Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman expressed his enthusiasm for the recognition, stating, “I’ve had the privilege of attending Merry Main Street year after year, and it’s been incredible to see how it continues to grow and get better every season.
