Lockport’s Natalie Bochantin Shines with Porter Pride Award
Lockport junior Natalie Bochantin received the prestigious Porter Pride award during the school’s volleyball banquet, recognizing her exceptional contributions to the team both on and off the court. Voted by her teammates, this accolade reflects her commitment to positivity and support throughout the season.
In the recent Class 4A Joliet West Sectional championship, Bochantin played a crucial role in Lockport’s 21-25, 25-20, 25-21 victory over the host Tigers. The match showcased her skills, as she recorded a team-high of 29 assists and nine digs, along with an ace contributing to her nine service points. Bochantin’s leadership helped propel her team to advance, as they prepare to face Oak Park-River Forest on November 8, 2025.
Bochantin expressed her gratitude for the award, stating, “It made me feel just really appreciated. This season my focus was on my positivity and giving my teammates help. I’m glad they noticed and were able to reciprocate in so many ways — not just on the court, but off the court as well.”
Celebrating Team Spirit
Lockport’s senior outside hitter, Bridget Ferriter, contributed significantly to the team’s success with 19 kills, including a remarkable performance on her 18th birthday. Ferriter described the team’s determination: “After we lost the first game, we had to step it up. I think we really did.”
The Porters, with a season record of 32-7, demonstrated resilience during their playoff run. Hutsyn Timosciek added 11 kills, while Olivia Priest and Malley Green made vital contributions with seven kills and 12 assists, respectively. Despite a strong effort from Joliet West, including 11 kills from Lexi Grevengoed, the Porters maintained their momentum.
Coach Nick Mraz highlighted that Bochantin’s impact went beyond statistics. He remarked, “Porter Pride means you pretty much do everything the right way… For us, she’s the energy.” Despite being a junior, Bochantin’s leadership qualities earned her the respect and votes from her peers, making her one of the few underclassmen to receive this recognition.
A Unique Team Dynamic
Bochantin shares the setting duties with Green in Lockport’s 6-2 offense, a transition that came after Green returned from an injury. “It was a lot of responsibility, but my teammates made it easier. They counted on me and we communicated well,” Bochantin noted.
Her approach to fostering team camaraderie includes fun initiatives like “funny shirt day,” which she believes helps maintain a positive atmosphere during practices. “I do have a goofy side. I think all of us have our inner child, even though we’re still children,” she said with a laugh.
As the Porters prepare for their upcoming match against Oak Park-River Forest, Bochantin’s contributions continue to be a source of inspiration for her teammates and fans alike. Her commitment to teamwork and positivity not only enhances her performance but also uplifts the entire squad as they aim for further success in the postseason.
