Discover 11 Essential Kitchen Color Trends Set for 2026
As the year draws to a close, kitchen design experts are gearing up for the trends that will dominate 2026. According to interior design authorities, color will play a pivotal role in transforming kitchens into personalized spaces that blend timeless style with individual expression. The insights reflect a shift from purely functional spaces to environments that resonate with warmth and character.
Hannah Yeo, senior manager of color marketing at Benjamin Moore, notes, “In 2026, the kitchen will evolve beyond function. They are becoming personalized spaces that balance timeless style with individuality.” With this transformation in mind, here are the color trends that designers are most excited about for the upcoming year.
Bold and Deep Hues
First on the list are shades of plum, burgundy, and deep purple. These rich tones are expected to make a significant impact. Shae Wilder, manager of designer relations at BlueStar, emphasizes the shift towards bold colors, stating, “People are not shying away from color, particularly plums, burgundies, and deep purples. These bold colors are being used together for strong statements.”
For a standout choice, Ben Kempton, director at 202 Design, highlights aubergine as a color gaining traction, creating an “understated opulence” in kitchen design. This shade pairs beautifully with dark wood and mixed metal finishes, enhancing its luxurious appeal.
Warm Neutrals and Earthy Tones
The trend of warm mushroom shades is also set to rise. As stark whites and grays fade, designers are turning to softer, deeper hues. Susan M. Jameson of Bridget Beari Designs remarks, “Palettes are natural, nurturing, and refined, ranging from hushed neutrals to lush, saturated shades.” This softer palette allows for a calming atmosphere while still providing an inviting contrast to modern and traditional elements.
In conjunction with this, a muddier take on earthy tones is expected to emerge. Interior designer Sophie Pringle predicts a move towards “sludgier, more complex shades,” including drab greens and muted purples that evoke sophistication and warmth.
Green and Muted Pastels
The revival of green kitchens, particularly warm olive tones, is also on the horizon. Fred Horlock, design director at Neptune, states, “Warm greens will feature heavily in kitchens in 2026,” providing a connection to nature while complementing natural wood finishes.
Pastel shades are making a reappearance, but with a more muted approach. Designers like Carina Raymond have observed a shift toward softer pastels like dusty pinks and powdery blues that lend a light, uplifting quality to kitchen spaces without feeling overly sweet.
Innovative Pairings and Jewel Tones
Unexpected color pairings are set to define kitchen aesthetics in 2026. Shae Wilder highlights the emergence of combinations such as deep purples with blues and vibrant yellows, encouraging a more experimental approach to design.
The trend towards richer jewel tones is also gaining momentum. Sarah Randolph, principal designer at Randolph Interior Design, anticipates deeper colors like peacock-inspired navy and intense sage green to replace lighter, brighter hues, adding depth and personality to interior spaces.
Natural Wood and Textured Neutrals
Natural wood finishes will continue their reign in kitchen design, with a focus on tonal contrasts rather than uniformity. Designers are increasingly pairing woods with textured finishes, creating visual interest and warmth.
Finally, stark white kitchens are giving way to classic creams with textured finishes. Helen Parker, creative director of deVOL Kitchens, indicates a growing preference for rich cream tones that work harmoniously with darker shades, creating depth and inviting warmth in kitchen spaces.
As these trends unfold, it is evident that the kitchen will evolve into a space that celebrates personal style, craftsmanship, and thoughtful color choices. The emphasis on warmth and individuality will allow homeowners to create kitchens that are not only functional but also uniquely reflective of their tastes and lifestyles.
