Couples Celebrate Love with Unique Valentine’s Day Ceremonies
Couples wishing to exchange vows on Valentine’s Day can take advantage of special offerings from the Humboldt County Clerk-Recorder’s Office. On February 14, 2024, the office will provide extended hours for in-person civil wedding ceremonies, running from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.. This initiative aims to accommodate those eager to formalize their commitment on this romantic occasion.
Ceremonies will take place at two distinctive venues, allowing couples to select a setting that resonates with their love story. One option is the historic Madaket, where couples can exchange vows aboard the vessel while enjoying stunning views of Humboldt Bay. For those seeking a more intimate indoor atmosphere, the Humboldt County Library’s Humboldt Room in Eureka offers an elegant space complete with panoramic views of the bay from its second floor.
All ceremonies will proceed regardless of weather conditions, ensuring that the special day remains memorable. Couples must book their ceremony in person at the Clerk-Recorder’s office, with a fee set at $100. Given the popularity of Valentine’s Day weddings, it is essential to secure a booking by February 11. A valid marriage license is mandatory for the ceremony, and couples should arrive with this essential documentation.
Married couples can obtain a marriage license up to 90 days before their ceremony. Applications can be initiated online at tinyurl.com/HumCoWeddings, but both partners must appear in person to complete the process. The application takes approximately 30 minutes and costs $78 for a public license or $80 for a confidential one.
For couples wishing to have someone other than the Clerk-Recorder officiate their ceremony, arrangements can be made in advance. The officiant must be at least 18 years old and either ordained or deputized by the Clerk-Recorder’s office ahead of time. The fee for deputization is $55. The office provides comprehensive wedding ceremony packets, which include ceremony wording and instructions for officiants.
For more information or to schedule a ceremony, couples can contact the Humboldt County Clerk-Recorder’s Office at 707-445-7593 or visit HumboldtGov.org/Clerk-Recorder. This Valentine’s Day, couples can create lasting memories in a unique and beautiful setting.
