Community Mourns the Loss of Phillip Tatum, 70, in Banks

Phillip Tatum, a long-time resident of Banks, Arkansas, passed away on February 10, 2026, at the age of 70. His contributions to the community and his family will be fondly remembered, as he leaves behind a legacy of faith and service.

Born on February 16, 1955, to the late Claude G. and Birdie Lee Davis Tatum, Phillip was known for his deep commitment to his faith. He accepted Christ at a young age and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Banks. His education took place in Bradley County, Arkansas, and he dedicated 45 years of his life to Potlatch Corp., where he earned the respect of many colleagues.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Marilyn Tatum, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage. He is also survived by two sons, Phillip Tatum (Kierra) and Mario Tatum, as well as a daughter, Laura Calvert (Daniel), both residing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Additionally, he leaves behind a bonus son, Christopher Tatum (Chaundra) of Dallas, Texas, and a bonus daughter, Theretha Marshall (Sammy).

His family also includes sisters Shirley Smalling (Carlton) and Sharon Watson (Roy) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, along with several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from various locations, including Kansas City, Missouri, and Grand Prairie, Texas. Phillip’s legacy extends to eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, reflecting a rich family life filled with love and support.

Funeral Services Held in Honor of Phillip Tatum

A funeral service was conducted on February 21, 2026, at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Warren, Arkansas. The service featured Rev. Roy Watson officiating, with Rev. Calvin Warner serving as the eulogist. Friends, family, and community members gathered to celebrate Phillip’s life and the impact he had on those around him.

Phillip’s burial took place in Childs Cemetery in Banks, where he rests among friends and loved ones. The support from the community is evident as many came to pay their respects and share their memories of Phillip.

The Tatum family expresses gratitude to the many friends and relatives who have offered their condolences during this difficult time. Special friends such as Ryan Meeks (Faso), Leonard Don Purifoy of Warren, and James Earl Jones of Jonesboro were among those who cherished Phillip’s friendship.

As the community comes together to mourn the loss of Phillip Tatum, his spirit and dedication to family and faith will continue to inspire those who knew him. Arrangements were made by Hammons Funeral Home.
