Community Mourns the Loss of Mark D. Birgin, 63, of Wabasha

Mark D. Birgin, known affectionately as “Birgy,” passed away on October 4, 2025, at his home in Wabasha, Minnesota, surrounded by his family. He was 63 years old. Born on June 20, 1962, in Rochester, Minnesota, Mark was the son of Paul and Patricia Birgin. A beloved member of his community, he is remembered for his passion for the outdoors, his artistic talents, and his deep commitment to family.
Mark graduated from John Marshall High School and went on to earn a degree from Mankato Vo Tech. He dedicated over 35 years to his career as a Graphic Designer with Court Sports and More in Owatonna, Minnesota. His work included notable contributions such as designing pieces for the Minnesota Waterfowl Stamp, showcasing his artistic flair and commitment to his craft.
In a celebration of love, Mark married Ann Sletten on October 14, 1989, at St. Pius Church in Rochester. Together, they raised two daughters, Alisha and Rebekah. Mark’s family was the center of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Mark was an avid outdoorsman who thrived in nature. He took great pride in his gardens and enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends. Family outings to the lake and state parks were a source of joy, where they often engaged in friendly competitions to catch the first fish. His enthusiasm for exploring nature extended to new hobbies, such as searching for agates with his son-in-law, Thomas Vuong, and his grandson, Cameron.
Mark is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Alisha Birgin and Rebekah (Thomas) Vuong; and grandson, Cameron Vuong. He is also remembered by his siblings, Scott (Shelly) Birgin, Debbie Birgin, and Theresa (Chris) Lucus, along with numerous other family members and friends who held him dear. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Patricia, and his brother, Thomas Birgin.
Memorial Services Scheduled
A memorial service to honor Mark’s life will take place at 11:00 AM on October 14, 2025, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, located at 5421 Royal Pl NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Visitation is scheduled for October 13, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home, with an additional hour of visitation before the service. A reception will follow the memorial service.
The family expresses gratitude for the exceptional care provided by the staff at Mayo Clinic Kasson, St. Mary’s Hospital, and the St. Croix Hospice service during Mark’s final days. Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home is honored to assist the Birgin family during this difficult time.
