A celebration of life service for Jane Morris, a respected member of the Jackson, Minnesota community, will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, at Salem Lutheran Church. Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation one hour prior to the service. Following the ceremony, Jane will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Jackson.

A Life of Service and Compassion

Born on February 9, 1952, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Jane Kay (Handevidt) Morris was the daughter of Maynard Hans and LaVerne Lucille (Hirschel) Handevidt. Jane dedicated her life to serving others, particularly as a licensed practical nurse, where her compassion for aging adults shone through in every role she undertook.

She graduated from Jackson High School in 1970 and continued her education at Worthington Community College, earning an associate degree. Jane’s professional journey included positions at the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson, Truman Senior Living in Kansas City, Jackson Hospital, and Doman Rose Assisted Living in Lakefield, Minnesota. Her gentle presence brought comfort to countless residents and their families.

Musical Talents and Family Bonding

Jane was not only known for her nursing career but also for her musical talents. Gifted with a beautiful voice, she began singing at a young age, performing at weddings and funerals. In high school, she was a member of “The Free Spirits” folk group and later joined “The Spirit of Harmony” in Spirit Lake, as well as the Sweet Adelines and the Jackson Chorale. Music served as a profound expression of her faith and love for others.

Family was central to Jane’s life. She cherished her children and grandchildren, finding immense joy in their gatherings. Her children, Eric L. (Holly) Morris of Mankato and Brooke L. (Dan Pelava) Morris of Madelia, along with her grandchildren, including Chandler, Kyle, and Jacob Morris, were her pride and joy. Jane’s legacy will continue through her family and the many lives she touched.

At the age of 61, Jane experienced a stroke that altered her life significantly. Following this event, she resided at the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson, where she was lovingly cared for until her passing on March 1, 2026, surrounded by her children.

Jane is lovingly remembered by her family and friends, who will gather to celebrate her life and the impact she had on their lives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Maynard and LaVerne Handevidt; her sister, Nancy (Scot) Hocum; and her fiancé, Scott Vickerman.

Blessed be the memory of Jane Morris, whose kindness and dedication will be missed by all who knew her.
