Cape May Celebrates Over a Century of Seaside Heritage

The project, which involved extensive research through the Library of Congress, aimed to capture images of Cape May’s famous buildings, comparing historical photographs with contemporary views. Chelsea Masterson played a pivotal role in gathering these images, highlighting the evolution of several key structures in the town.

Transforming Landmarks: Then and Now

One notable example is the Colonial Hotel, which originally functioned as a 60-room boarding house featuring a distinctive French roof and expansive porches. Today, it operates as a modern hotel, boasting a popular outdoor area known as “The Porch.” Visitors can see the contrast between the hotel’s past and its current offerings, showcasing how Cape May has adapted to contemporary tastes while retaining its historic charm.

The Lafayette Hotel, another significant landmark, was established in the early 20th century but has since been replaced by the Marquis de Lafayette Hotel.
