Cal Poly Claims Top Honors at 2026 Rose Parade with Unique Float

The 2026 Tournament of Roses Parade held in Pasadena, California, saw Cal Poly Universities awarded the prestigious Sweepstakes Trophy for their entry ‘Jungle Jumpstart.’ This float, designed and constructed by students from Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, showcased a creative narrative involving rainforest animals working together to repair a robot named Lunchbox.

The float was distinguished as the only student-built entry among the 43 floats displayed during the parade. Utilizing an impressive array of materials, it featured over 21,000 flowers, along with unique elements such as ground coffee beans and walnut shells, to vividly tell its story. This year marked the 77th joint entry from the two universities, further emphasizing their commitment to innovation and creativity in float design.

Additional Awards and Highlights

In total, the parade recognized 21 winning floats across various categories. Among the notable entries were ‘Carved in Stone; A Legacy of Teamwork’ by Travel South Dakota and ‘Building Kinder Communities’ presented by the Boys & Girls Clubs of the West San Gabriel Valley and Eastside. Other awardees included:

– ‘We’re Getting There. Together’ by Shrinking
– ‘Sharing Skills for Success’ from The UPS Store
– ‘Believe In San Francisco’ by the San Francisco Travel Association
– ‘Rising Together’ from the California Community Foundation and Black Freedom Fund

Some floats did not receive awards this year, including ‘Elks Care, Elks Share’ by Elks U.S.A. and ‘The Great Picnic Heist!’ from the City of South Pasadena.
